    Responsibilities

    Job Summary


    We are looking for a Director, Participant Communications within our Defined Contribution (DC) Business Development team.
    The Director, Participant Communications is responsible for researching and fulfilling the participant communication needs of our key DC constituencies—participant, plan sponsor, and financial intermediary. Through the combination of relevant past experience, knowledge of AB’s key DC business strategies and close collaboration with the DC and client communications team, this individual will be responsible for developing communication strategies that effectively inform and educate the reader, influence participants to make better choices, bolster our value proposition with clients and their other service providers, advance our sales opportunities and strengthen client relationships.
    As one of the largest managers of custom target-date funds in the US and a pioneer in multi-insurer in-plan retirement income solutions for institutional DC plans, the Director, Participant Communications will play a key role in assisting our plan sponsor clients with customizing participant communications programs to meet their unique needs. Additionally, this role is responsible for fielding our ongoing plan participant and plan sponsor research studies, including designing the surveys, interpreting the results and shaping the insights to be published and shared with clients, prospects and the media. The candidate will interact closely with Sales & Client Services, Marketing and the Multi-Asset Solutions investment team in addition to clients and prospects.

     

    Job Description


    Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Work directly with large market DC plan sponsors, their other service providers and DC client service officers to develop and deliver customized communication strategies that satisfy plan sponsor objectives and participant needs. Required engagement includes pre-sales prospecting support through implementation and ongoing satisfaction assessment.
    • Develop and continually refine participant communication strategies and materials for AB’s target-date solutions, including custom target-date, prepackaged target-date funds and lifetime income solutions to be utilized by plan sponsors, consultants and intermediaries for small to mega-sized plans.
    • Ongoing research and development of AB’s communication strategies in support our in-plan lifetime income target-date funds is a critical responsibility.
    • Lead the development and delivery of all participant communication programs, be they national or regional conferences, webinars, or sales meetings and effectively represent our capabilities in these forums.
    • Develop educational materials for DC participants across a broad array of relevant topics.
    • Responsible for our long-running participant and plan sponsor survey work, called Inside the Minds of Plan Participants and Inside the Minds of Plan Sponsors including developing the surveys in conjunction with a market research firm, evaluating the results and shaping the messaging and content to be published and shared with clients, prospects, the media, etc.
    • Leverage the research findings to develop effective participant communication strategies as well as partner with marketing to build campaigns to promote the research externally.
    • Manage all costs related to our participant communication strategies and participant/plan sponsor research; improve efficiencies while maintaining effectiveness. 

    Qualifications

    Job Qualifications & Key Attributes


    The ideal candidate should have:

    • 10+ years of experience in the financial services industry with a deep knowledge of DC plans, including experience in both sales and servicing phases and hands-on expertise in the development of DC participant and plan sponsor communications.
    • BA/BS in Finance, Business Management or Marketing.
    • A strong understanding of both the institutional and retail DC marketplaces is required (small through mega-sized plans).
    • Knowledge of target-date funds and Qualified Default Investment Alternatives and the ability to articulate the pros and cons of various kinds in a simplified manner.
    • Knowledge of consumer market research methods is preferred.
    • A proven ability to successfully coach and mentor direct reports as well as work collaboratively with the product management, client service, sales and client communications teams (editorial, web, creative strategy, etc.).
    • A team player with highly developed interpersonal skills, including collaboration, negotiation and influence. Ability to interact effectively with senior executives internally and externally.
    • Ability to work effectively under pressure while multitasking, adhering to tight deadlines and maintaining strategic relationships with internal partners.
    • FINRA Series 6 or 7 and 63 preferred.
