    IT Job Description:

    This role is for a Unix/Linux engineer.  Candidates must be extremely knowledgeable in RedHat Linux and will ideally have experience with Solaris and virtualization technologies, particularly VMWare.


    Preferably, they will have some experience with Cloud technologies, ideally Microsoft Azure, and will have some familiarity with Microsoft Windows server operating systems. They will possess a thorough understanding of the operational challenges and engineering principles surrounding various business computer technologies within the finance industry. 


    The Unix/Linux Engineer will collaborate closely with other engineering and operations teams within the organization.  They will be familiar with operational disciplines such as project management, problem management and change management as well as networking, systems monitoring and multi-platform integration. 


    This is a hands-on position requiring a person with a great deal of systems engineering experience, together with a thorough understanding of various technology principles. The position will participate within our Engineering Round Table forum to assist in promoting technology innovation through collaborative engineering.


    Additionally, in this role you will be a technical escalation point for our Unix/Linux operations team, ensuring rapid resolution of problems and executing forensic analysis as required.


    The key job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Engineering of RedHat Linux on-premise systems and within our Cloud based infrastructure.
    • Engineering of Solaris and VMWare environments.
    • Manage infrastructure engineering projects.
    • Create/maintain engineering documentation.
    • Manage and evolve the Unix/VMWare/Cloud reporting, monitoring and management infrastructure.
    • Participate in design, research and development efforts leading to improvements in existing platform, virtual and Cloud environments and solutions.

    Job Qualifications:

    The ideal candidate will have a formal higher education degree, preferably in the field of IT.  The candidate must have at least 5 years of hands-on systems engineering experience within the finance and banking industry or equivalent.


    Required Skills:

    • Core RedHat Linux and Solaris operating system engineering knowledge.
    • Designing builds of standard operating environments for new versions of RedHat Linux and Solaris.
    • Research, identify, test and deploy operating system and 3rd party patch updates.
    • Design and configure system security and security benchmarks.
    • Design and configure access to local and SAN based storage.
    • Understanding of various tunable system resource/parameters (e.g network configuration, shared memory, services).
    • Script development and maintenance. Shell, Perl and/or Python scripting proficiency is a necessity.
    • Understanding of kernel and components (drivers, libraries process intercommunication).
    • Performance troubleshooting of memory and CPU utilization, I/O components and other peripherals.
    • Knowledge of enterprise tools and products (such as Veritas and Centrify).
    • RedHat Linux and/or Solaris packaging.
    • Experience with virtual server builds in a VMWare environment.


    Desired Skills:

    • Hands on engineering level experience with vSphere 6.x and higher.
    • Experience with Cloud technologies, particularly Azure.
    • Cloud first engineering and implementation. System recovery in a Cloud environment.
    • Familiarity with other Linux flavors (SUSE, CentOS, etc.).
    • Familiarity with automation and configuration managements tools and principles (e.g. Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Salt).
    • Familiarity with Windows server operating systems.
    • Understanding of hyperconverged technologies (Nutanix, Simplivity, VxRails).
    • Familiarity with Oracle/Sybase/MSSQL databases.
    • Working knowledge of SAN attached storage technologies (e.g. EMC VNX/VMAX, Hitachi, Netapp, Pure).
    • Familiarity with CIS benchmarks or equivalent
    • Proficient with Microsoft office productivity products: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Project


    In addition, the successful candidate will:

    • Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Demonstrate excellent communication skills and be comfortable working closely with senior business partners
